The Origins of Sun Worship
Sun worship, as with all other forms of false worship, is satan worship. Any worship diverted from the True Creator of the universe, YHWH (GOD’s name in Hebrew), is satan worship. We must always remember that the real culprit behind false worship is Lucifer(satan). Lucifer, in his misguided arrogance and pride, sees himself as equal to, or greater than, YHWH. The Scriptures tell of his ill fated war in Heaven against YHWH, where he thought he could usurp his Creator from His own throne and claim it for himself. You would think that his defeat, along with the third of the angels that sided with him, would have brought about a chastised and humbled attitude, but his rebellion only grew. Since he could not replace YHWH in reality, he has attempted to replace YHWH in the hearts of men. All of the false gods in the history of the world have been satan’s attempt to pretend to be YHWH. From history we can see that much of mankind has been more than willing to help him.
When we search through historical records it is easy to trace the human origins of false worship to one man, Nimrod, and the sun worshiping religion he founded.. The mythical gods and goddesses of ancient civilizations all have their origins in this veiled form of satan worship.
Nimrod was the great-grandson of Noah. The Scriptures tell us he was a skilled with the weapons of his day, a great hunter and a warrior.
"And Cush begot Nimrod; he began to be a mighty one on the earth. He was a mighty hunter before YHWH: wherefore it is said, "Even as Nimrod the mighty hunter before YHWH". And the beginning of his kingdom was Babel (Babylon)." Genesis 10:8-10
As he mastered the arts of war he built a great kingdom for himself. As his empire grew he proclaimed himself king of Babylon (Babel) making him the first human ‘king’.
Nimrod’s mother was Semiramis, known as much for her beauty as for her lewd immorality. Many of the early historical accounts claim Semiramis developed an unnatural affection for Nimrod and married him, her own son. Together, in this unholy alliance, they ruled their kingdom with an iron fist.
As with satan, Nimrod was not content in his own disobedience but led his subjects into a great rebellion against YHWH. Nimrod started to worship the sun and encouraged his subjects to do the same. Sun worship is a very thinly veiled form of satan worship. Lucifer’s very name could be seen as a connection to the sun; Lucifer means morning star, brightness. The sun gave its light to the world, bringing warmth and the ability to make things grow. The sun had dried up the waters of the great flood, as YHWH had intended; therefore by Nimrod’s reasoning, the sun brought with it salvation, they could not live without it. By worship the great star that scattered early morning’s darkness, they where worshiping the morning star, Lucifer. Nimrod, as the one who had received this enlightenment concerning the sun, represented the sun god and received a portion of this sun-god to reside inside of him. He was no longer merely their king but their god-king, no longer merely human but a man-god. You can only be filled with two types of spirit, the Spirit of YHWH or the spirit of satan and his dominions.
Although they worshiped their god every day of the week, the first day of the week was set aside as a holy day to the sun. The god of the sun was called Baal or Lord. Today it is still known as Sun-day, the day of the sun (god) or to be exact, Baal’s (Lord’s) day. Nimrod and Semiramis’ immoral lifestyle carried over into their Sun-day celebrations. Over time it became customary to gather together to await the daily arrival of the sun and then welcome it by ringing bells and gongs and indulge in other forms of merriment such as orgies, sexual perversions, fire rituals and sacrifices, just to name a few examples of Sun-day worship. No where in the Scriptures does it say to keep Sun-day as your Sabbath or that the Sabbath was ever changed from Saturday to Sun-day. That which starts as pagan stays pagan.
Nimrod’s despicable practices where brought to a sudden end by his violent death. According to the legends Nimrod’s Uncle Shem, Noah’s son, could no longer tolerate his nephew’s flagrant disregard to YHWH or His Torah and killed him. Nimrod’s body was then divided into pieces and sent to the edges of his kingdom as a warning to his subjects of the price to be paid for false worship. This type of warning can also be seen in Judges 19:29 and 1 Samuel 11:7. According to this same legend Semiramis retrieved all the parts of Nimrod’s body except one, his reproductive organ was never found. She had an obelisk (a tall pointed tower) built to symbolize his missing organ.
Nimrod’s violent death did deter people from false worship, but only for a short while. Semiramis position as queen was in jeopardy, a precarious place she did not enjoy. In order to firmly establish her role as queen, and elevate her position, she told the mourners of Nimrod that upon his death, Nimrod had become fully a god. She claimed that he now lived in the sun, and was the sun, shining his warmth, love and protection on the earth. She encouraged their subjects to gather around the newly built obelisk on Sun-day to await Nimrod’s (the sun’s) first morning rays. From now on he would be called Baal (Lord). As his wife, Semiramis proclaimed herself as Queen of the Heavens; as such she was now to be called Ishtar. She even went so far as to say that she was not really mortal but a goddess. She claimed that she had actually come from the moon in an egg on the first full moon after the spring equinox. Upon her death she would dwell in the heavens again as the moon, thus assuring everyone that ether she, or Nimrod, would always be watching over them.
When Semiramis/Ishtar discovered she was expecting a child she invented a fable in order to hide the proof of one of her elicit affairs. She told everyone that Nimrod had visited her in the rays of the sun during the first full moon after the spring equinox and that she had miraculously conceived his child. Every year a festival was held in honor of her coming to earth and the immaculate conception of their child on the first Sun-day after the spring equinox. It became the custom to eat small round cakes/buns with the initial of their child on it, the ancient form of our T, an x surrounded by a circle. After her death the cakes/buns were offered up as an offering to her, the Queen of Heaven. This holiday still bears her name, Ishtar/Easter. Our Messiah was crucified on Passover, not Easter. (Mark 14:16-17)
As the long days of summer past, and the days gradually grew shorter, it was believed that the sun, Nimrod/Baal, was dying. December 21st was the shortest day of the year; by December 25th a slight increase in the daylight could be noticed. In the pagan mind, the sun was reborn on December 25th. It was on this day, the birthday of the sun, that Semiramis gave birth to a son. She named him Tammuz, although he became known by many different names throughout history, as did his parents. Since Tammuz’s father was the sun-god and his mother was the moon-goddess, Semiramis demanded Tammuz be worshiped also. Mother and child were therefore worshiped.
The winter solstice (birthday of the sun) became a huge festival in the area. Feast were held, and it was generally considered a day of immense celebration. Semiramis/Ishtar taught her son, Tammuz, to take an offering (gift) for his father, Nimrod, into the forest on his birthday, December 25th, and tie it to a tree. When the people saw Tammuz and his mother doing this, they also began to place offerings on and around trees. As the celebration of the birthday of the sun grew, people began to cut down trees and bring them into their homes, believing the tree was an emblem of Nimrod. Cutting branches from the tree and placing them throughout their homes was another custom to help them feel closer to their god on his birthday. Placing gifts on and around the tree was a way to thank him for being reborn in the sun so that he might shine upon the earth, thus allowing them to live another year.
As Tammuz grew he was worshiped as the son of the sun, therefore he was a god. As he came into power it was soon evident that his cruelty was as great as his parents, carrying on the tradition of child sacrifices. To honor his father he began offering human sacrifices on a piece of wood in the shape of the first letter of his own name, the letter Tau. This is believed to be the origin of crucifixion. Tammuz was eventually killed by a wild boar near the time of the spring equinox. His mother declared forty days of mourning for her son, to be completed just prior to the full moon that would mark the anniversary of his ‘immaculate conception’. When Tammuz was killed, Semiramis told the people that he had gone to his father, the sun, and there they would be together always. She told them they could light a candle and that would bring the glory of father and son into their homes. The people were comforted by the belief that Tammuz now dwelt with his father, in the sun.
It soon became the habit for people to mourn for 40 days every year. We read about this in Ezekiel 8:12-18.
He said to me, "Son of man, have you seen what the elders of the house of Israel are doing in the darkness, each at the shrine of his own idol? They say, ‘Yahweh does not see us: Yahweh has forsaken the land.’" Again, He said, "You will see them doing things that are even more detestable." Then he brought me to the entrance to the north gate of the house of Yahweh, and I saw women sitting there, mourning for Tammuz. He said to me, "Do you see this, son of man? You will see things that are even more detestable than this. He then brought me into the inner court of the house of Yahweh and there at the entrance to the temple, between the portico and the alter, were about twenty-five men. With their backs toward the temple of Yahweh and their faces toward the east, they were bowing down to the sun in the east.
Notice that the above Scripture also tells us that is was still dark yet the men were bowing to the sun in the east. This was a ‘sunrise service’. The women were mourning for 40 days and the men were in a sunrise service. All of this was being done in YHWH’s house and He is condemning them! Many denominations still practice this annual event. Sadly, they long to worship and honor their Risen Savior, and are doing it in the way that their misguided clergy has told them is the correct way.
You can find the basis for sun worship in almost all ancient civilizations, the names are changed, and there are slight variations of the story, but most of the details remain the same. In Egypt, the names were Isis and Osiris, in Rome, Venus and Adonis and in Greece, Aphrodite and Adonis. Whatever name you use for these ancient, mythical gods, and whatever city or country you place them in, they are still merely branches of the original story. When you trace these legends far enough back, you inevitably arrive at the same original source. Nimrod was the king of Babylon, Semiramis was his wife.
Although most Christians would be horrified at the thought, they are in fact practicing syncretism. Our bibles clearly state Y’shua was crucified on Passover yet most believers celebrate Easter, which can be as much as a month away. They attend sunrise services on Sun-day, give their children baskets supposedly left by a rabbit and hunt for easter eggs. All based in Nimrod’s worship of the sun! Then they sit down around a ham (abominable swine’s flesh) because tradition mandates it. A tradition that was started because Semiramis told her people to consume pigs in retaliation for her sons death. Then they pass a plate of hot cross buns which are cakes of bread for the Queen of Heaven! (Jeremiah 7:16-20)
What does any of this have to do with the sacrifice our savior made on Passover? Nothing. Satan is still trying to divert and make unclean true worship of YHWH.
Come out of her my people for the time has come to judge Babylon. |
